R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, An accomplished attorney and admired civic leader is
  receiving well-deserved recognition as George Louis McWilliams
  becomes the first recipient of the President's Distinguished
  Service Award from Texas A&M University--Texarkana; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. McWilliams is a Texarkana native who graduated
  from Texas High School before earning his bachelor's degree from
  Texas A&M University in 1963 and his law degree from The University
  of Texas at Austin School of Law in 1966; and
         WHEREAS, Admitted to the State Bar of Texas the year of his
  law school graduation, this skilled litigator went on to establish
  a distinguished career in the field of law; he is a senior partner
  in the firm of Patton, Haltom, Roberts, McWilliams & Greer and has
  35 years of active trial experience in civil and criminal cases at
  the state and federal level; widely respected by his peers, he is a
  member of numerous legal organizations and has served in leadership
  positions as the president of the Texarkana Bar Association and as
  director and vice president of the Texas Association of Defense
  Counsel; and
         WHEREAS, In addition to his professional accomplishments,
  Mr. McWilliams has taken an active role in his community; he is a
  member of First Baptist Church, Texarkana, a coach for the
  Texarkana Soccer Association, and a member of the Four States Fair
  Association, the Volunteer Services Bureau, and the Boy Scouts of
  America; moreover, he has contributed to his nation's defense
  through his service in the Texas Army National Guard; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. McWilliams' civic engagement is matched by that
  of his wife, Rebecca, who contributes her time and talents to a
  number of charitable causes; they have two children, Dean R.
  McWilliams and Meg McWilliams Salter; and
         WHEREAS, In both his professional endeavors and his volunteer
  work, George McWilliams has proven himself an individual of
  admirable achievement who has had an enduring and positive impact
  on the Texarkana community, and he is indeed deserving of this
  prestigious honor; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate George Louis McWilliams on his
  receipt of the President's Distinguished Service Award from Texas
  A&M University--Texarkana and extend to him sincere best wishes for
  continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. McWilliams as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
