R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, In 2009, students, alumni, and faculty are |
|
|
celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Mass Communication |
|
|
Department at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, With its unique combination of academic study and |
|
|
skills training, the mass communication program is designed to |
|
|
prepare its students for continuing on to graduate school or for |
|
|
pursuing careers at newspapers, television stations, advertising |
|
|
and public relations firms, and communication corporations; mass |
|
|
communication students take part in such projects as public |
|
|
relations campaigns, documentaries, and graphic design projects, |
|
|
and they benefit from close faculty interaction and classrooms |
|
|
equipped with the latest technology; in addition to taking courses |
|
|
in mass media, they choose broadcasting, journalism, new media, or |
|
|
public relations and advertising as their minor field of study; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This distinguished program has earned both the First |
|
|
Place Newspaper Sweepstakes and the First Place Television |
|
|
Sweepstakes from the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association, and |
|
|
it was given the Pacemaker Award from the National Newspaper |
|
|
Association; its students have also received accolades from groups |
|
|
like the Rocky Mountain Collegiate Media Association and College |
|
|
Broadcasters, Incorporated, and they have been awarded |
|
|
scholarships through a number of competitions sponsored by the DFW |
|
|
chapter of the Association for Women Journalists, the Press Club of |
|
|
Dallas, the International Radio and Television Society Foundation, |
|
|
and other organizations; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, With its commitment to high-quality instruction, |
|
|
the Mass Communication Department is building a solid foundation |
|
|
for its graduates, and it is helping them become successful |
|
|
professionals and productive citizens of the Lone Star State; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Mass |
|
|
Communication Department at Midwestern State University and extend |
|
|
to all those associated with the program sincere best wishes for |
|
|
continued success; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the Mass Communication Department as an expression of |
|
|
high regard by the Texas House of Representatives. |
