R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The friends and family of U.S. Army Corporal David
  McCormick suffered an immeasurable loss with the death of this
  valiant soldier in Iraq on April 28, 2008, at the age of 26; and
         WHEREAS, Corporal McCormick was killed while bravely serving
  his second tour of duty with the 1st Squadron, 75th Cavalry
  Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division; his
  courageous efforts as an army specialist and cavalry scout earned
  him such honors as the Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense
  Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service
  Medal, and the Army Service Ribbon, as well as a Bronze Star and a
  Purple Heart; and
         WHEREAS, A longtime resident of Bay City, David McCormick was
  born on April 10, 1982, to Leo McCormick, Jr., and Anna McCormick;
  he was known for his strong interest in history, his personal code
  of honor, and his patriotism; he joined the army after graduating
  from Bay City High School in 2000, and he planned to become a
  commissioned officer in the U.S. Coast Guard and to earn a business
  degree at Texas State University; and
         WHEREAS, Exemplifying the highest ideals of the United States
  armed forces, David McCormick inspired others with his fortitude,
  tenacity, and courage, and those who were fortunate enough to know
  him will forever carry memories of this heroic Texan close in their
  hearts; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Army Corporal
  David McCormick and extend sincere sympathy to his family: to his
  mother, Anna June Staten McCormick; to his brother, Leo William
  McCormick III; to his sisters, Kristy Davis and her husband, Kelly,
  and Mary Ann Davis and her husband, Danny; to his uncle and aunt,
  Robert and Carol Staten; to his nephew, Adam; and to his other
  relatives and friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of David
  McCormick.
