H.R. No. 1790
 
 
 
R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Since its establishment in 1990, Dallas Area
  Interfaith has become an effective force for promoting common
  values and democratic traditions and has made a positive difference
  in the lives of countless Texas residents; and
         WHEREAS, A multiethnic, multi-issue group of diverse civic
  institutions, DAI works to give ordinary citizens a structure
  through which they can negotiate effectively with the government
  and private institutions that affect their lives; the group's
  primary focuses include fair immigration policies, an improved
  educational system, public safety, affordable health care, and
  support for developing a strong and vital southern sector of
  Dallas; and
         WHEREAS, DAI has achieved an impressive record of success
  through the years; its efforts played a major role in an estimated
  15,200 children in North Texas becoming eligible for CHIP in 2007,
  DISD's adoption of after-school programs, a boost in affordable
  homes in South Dallas, parent-led school improvements, prevention
  of a major sales tax increase, and a provision for 400 additional
  police officers in the City of Dallas budget; in addition, the group
  helped organize the 2006 Mega March in support of comprehensive
  immigration reform; and
         WHEREAS, Helping to identify social and economic inequities,
  develop leaders to articulate the need for change, and create
  coalitions and strategies to benefit all people, Dallas Area
  Interfaith works to preserve essential rights and correct
  injustices that impede access to the American dream; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby honor Dallas Area Interfaith for its commendable
  goals and achievements in behalf of all Texans and extend to those
  associated with the organization sincere best wishes for the
  future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Dallas Area Interfaith as an expression of high regard
  by the Texas House of Representatives.
