R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Edna Bryant of Waco commemorated a special milestone
  in her life when she celebrated her 100th birthday on July 14, 2008;
  and
         WHEREAS, Born in 1908 to Jesse and Carrie Laird in Reagan,
  Edna Laird was just 11 years old when her mother died, and as the
  firstborn child, she took on the responsibility of raising her two
  brothers and two sisters; and
         WHEREAS, In 1926, she married George Bryant and with him
  lovingly raised five children, Delores Rogers, Wayne Bryant,
  Wendell Bryant, Bobbie Beck, and the late Charles Bryant, and the
  couple shared a rewarding marriage until Mr. Bryant's passing in
  1951; in addition to providing a warm and inviting home, Mrs. Bryant
  helped support her family by working part-time as a grocery store
  checker; and
         WHEREAS, Today, she enjoys the devotion and affection of a
  large circle of relatives and friends, including numerous
  grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and
  great-great-grandchildren; a resident of Waco for 69 years, she is
  a member of First Baptist Church and enjoys listening to gospel
  music; and
         WHEREAS, Edna Bryant is a source of inspiration to all who
  know her, and it is a pleasure to recognize her for a century of life
  well lived; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Edna Bryant on her 100th birthday
  and extend to her sincere best wishes for all the happiness she so
  richly deserves; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mrs. Bryant as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
