R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Horace and Alto West of Houston celebrated their |
|
70th wedding anniversary on April 16, 2009, and they may indeed |
|
reflect with joy on the rewarding relationship they have shared; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Natives of the Brownwood area, Horace West and the |
|
former Alto Turpin exchanged the vows of matrimony at a ceremony |
|
held in Pecos on that special day in 1939, and over the course of |
|
their marriage, they have found in each other a loving life partner; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. West count among their blessings a fine |
|
family that includes two daughters, Dr. Charlene Gibert and her |
|
husband, Wayne, and Sujane Baker and her husband, Olen, as well as |
|
four grandchildren, Charla Hollingsworth, Christine Gibert, Dr. |
|
Chris Baker, and Phil Baker and his wife, Stephanie; and |
|
WHEREAS, The couple lived in Fort Stockton, Fort Worth, |
|
Dublin, and McCamey before settling in Rankin in 1954; Mr. West |
|
enjoyed a career with Halliburton and also served on the hospital |
|
board, while Mrs. West volunteered with the hospital auxiliary; |
|
after Mr. West's retirement in 1970, he and his wife moved to San |
|
Angelo, where Mr. West was employed with Angelo Truck and Tractor |
|
and later Angelo State University; the Wests moved to Houston in |
|
2005 to be near their family; and |
|
WHEREAS, Devout Baptists, they were congregants of First |
|
Baptist Church of Rankin for 22 years and in San Angelo joined |
|
Harris Avenue Baptist Church; Mr. West has been a deacon since 1941, |
|
and Mrs. West taught junior girls Sunday school and a kindergarten |
|
class for many years, and they were instrumental in facilitating |
|
the integration of their church in Rankin in 1962; in addition to |
|
contributing to their community of faith, Mr. West is a 50-plus year |
|
Mason, and Mrs. West is a member of the Daughters of the American |
|
Revolution; and |
|
WHEREAS, For seven decades, Horace and Alto West have brought |
|
to their marriage laughter, kindness, and devotion, and it is a |
|
pleasure to honor them for their enduring commitment; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Horace and Alto West on their 70th |
|
wedding anniversary and extend to them sincere best wishes for |
|
continued happiness; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. and Mrs. West as an expression of high regard by |
|
the Texas House of Representatives. |
