R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The Texas A&M University Board of Regents has |
|
honored Yolanda Morado of the Texas AgriLife Starr County Extension |
|
Office with a 2008 Regents Fellow Service Award; and |
|
WHEREAS, Created in 1998, this award recognizes |
|
professionals in Texas A&M University System agencies whose |
|
exceptional leadership in developing and delivering programs has |
|
resulted in lasting benefits to the people of Texas; selections are |
|
made by a system-level committee that examines such criteria as |
|
dedication, creative ability, and adherence to scientific |
|
philosophy and scholarly principles, as well as a stellar |
|
reputation among colleagues and external stakeholders; and |
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Morado has worked for more than three decades to |
|
improve the quality of life in one of the nation's most impoverished |
|
areas; an agent in the field of family and consumer science, she has |
|
designed and taught diabetes health care courses as well as |
|
programs that encompass screening, support groups, and management |
|
of this widespread disease; under her able guidance, the Better |
|
Living for Texans program, which teaches nutrition, food safety, |
|
wellness, and financial management, has reached some 5,000 adults |
|
and 3,000 children; and |
|
WHEREAS, Demonstrating outstanding executive ability and a |
|
spirit of innovation, Ms. Morado has trained more than 1,500 |
|
volunteers as instructors to other volunteers, using the master |
|
volunteer concept to further disseminate knowledge of such topics |
|
as health, financial security, parenting, literacy, and |
|
environmental stewardship; she has played a key role since 1995 in |
|
binational conferences to heighten awareness and knowledge of |
|
issues crucial to residents of border communities; moreover, she |
|
has aided new entrepreneurs through the Pasos al Mercado or Steps to |
|
the Marketplace program and hosts an annual child care conference |
|
that provides professional training and continuing education to |
|
improve child care and empower women seeking entry into the working |
|
world as caregivers; and |
|
WHEREAS, The designation of Regents Fellow carries a sizeable |
|
stipend, along with the responsibility to serve as a role model |
|
within The Texas A&M University System; Yolanda Morado has |
|
extensive experience in this capacity, having exemplified the ideal |
|
of service to others throughout her 34-year career with the Texas |
|
AgriLife Starr County Extension Office, and her leadership and |
|
commitment continue to inspire all those who are privileged to know |
|
her; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Yolanda Morado on receiving a 2008 |
|
Regents Fellow Service Award from the Texas A&M University Board of |
|
Regents and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success |
|
in her worthy endeavors; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Ms. Morado as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
