| WHEREAS, The Reverend N. D. Burkley, Sr., has made a | ||
| meaningful difference in the lives of countless people as pastor of | ||
| Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Galveston since 1994; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Through the years, Reverend Burkley's spiritual | ||
| guidance and visionary leadership have earned him the lasting | ||
| respect and admiration of his congregation; and | ||
| WHEREAS, In the wake of the devastation caused by Hurricane | ||
| Ike in 2008, Reverend Burkley has turned his attention to the cause | ||
| of helping Galveston evacuees return home; he has worked with | ||
| numerous city, county, state, and congressional officials in an | ||
| effort to restore north Galveston, and he has dedicated countless | ||
| hours to ensuring the permanent placement of all the city's | ||
| residents; and | ||
| WHEREAS, N. D. Burkley has guided Mt. Olive Missionary | ||
| Baptist Church with compassion, conviction, and generosity, and | ||
| congregants as well as members of the greater community have indeed | ||
| benefited from his inspired leadership; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby honor the Reverend N. D. Burkley, Sr., on his | ||
| 15th pastoral anniversary with Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church | ||
| and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success with his | ||
| important work; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for Reverend Burkley as an expression of high regard by the | ||
| Texas House of Representatives. | ||
