R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Eta Chapter of Eta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., is
  hosting its annual Founders Day celebration on June 13, 2009; and
         WHEREAS, Created as a venue for African American business and
  professional women, Eta Phi Beta seeks to promote high scholastic
  standards, personal growth, career awareness, and community
  involvement; guided by the motto "Not For Ourselves But For
  Others," the group operates a nonprofit foundation, and it awards
  scholarships to high school students with business aspirations; in
  addition, Eta Phi Beta sponsors professional seminars and works to
  create fellowship among businesswomen, and it supports local and
  national charities, as well as programs that improve the quality of
  life of the developmentally disabled; and
         WHEREAS, One of more than 90 chapters throughout the United
  States and the U.S. Virgin Islands, the Eta Chapter dates back to
  1960, when Dorothy Logan saw the growing need to form a network of
  women in the Dallas-Fort Worth area; by December of that year, the
  chapter was officially established, and along with Ms. Logan, the
  charter members included: Selena Bennett, Vera Berry, Ella Buard,
  Aretta Davis, Marie D. Micheaux, Constance Feaster, Maxine Friday,
  Johnnye Hughes, Mae Fretwell Mason, Patricia Osborne, Francis
  Washington, and Bethesda Sutto; and
         WHEREAS, For nearly a half-century, the Eta Chapter has
  remained committed to its ideals of sisterhood, leadership, and
  community service, and its members may indeed reflect with pride on
  the remarkable legacy they share; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate the 2009 Founders Day observance of
  the Eta Chapter of Eta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., and extend to all
  those associated with this notable organization sincere best wishes
  for a memorable and enjoyable event; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the Eta Chapter as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
