R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Members of Eta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., are
  gathering on June 13, 2009, for their annual Founders Day
  celebration, and the occasion provides a fitting opportunity to
  honor this outstanding organization; and
         WHEREAS, Eta Phi Beta dates back to 1942, when 11 students at
  Lewis Business College in Detroit, Michigan, sought to create a
  venue for African American business and professional women; the
  vision of these charter members was to promote high scholastic
  standards, personal growth, and career awareness and to provide
  opportunities for community involvement; and
         WHEREAS, Today, Eta Phi Beta holds true to its original goals
  and its motto "Not For Ourselves But For Others," and it actively
  contributes to the communities it serves through more than 90
  chapters in the United States and the U.S. Virgin Islands; in
  addition to operating a nonprofit foundation, the group sponsors
  professional seminars and works to create fellowship among
  businesswomen, and it awards scholarships to high school students
  with business aspirations; Eta Phi Beta also supports local and
  national charities, including the United Negro College Fund, and
  its members donate their time to programs that improve the quality
  of life of the developmentally disabled; and
         WHEREAS, Over the course of its rich history, Eta Phi Beta
  Sorority, Inc., has remained committed to its ideals of sisterhood,
  leadership, and community service, and its members may indeed
  reflect with pride on the remarkable legacy they share; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby honor Eta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., as it
  commemorates its 2009 Founders Day observance and extend to all
  those associated with this notable organization sincere best wishes
  for a memorable and enjoyable event; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Eta Phi Beta as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
