| WHEREAS, Members of the Chap Robotics team of Westlake High | ||
| School in Austin will be demonstrating their talent and hard work on | ||
| May 5, 2009, when they exhibit their robots at the K12 Robotics Expo | ||
| at the State Capitol; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The Chap Robotics team is made up of students from | ||
| Westlake High School's two-year robotics curriculum; these | ||
| talented and energetic young people work together to design and | ||
| create robots for competition; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The team also works to foster interest in science, | ||
| mathematics, and technology throughout the community by | ||
| introducing basic robotics to local elementary and middle schools | ||
| and making presentations to business and parent groups; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The K12 Robotics Expo at the State Capitol is part of | ||
| the Capitol Boosting Engineering Science and Technology program; | ||
| Capitol BEST is an annual robotics competition in Travis and | ||
| surrounding counties; teams of high school students are given six | ||
| weeks to create a remote-controlled machine from a box of raw | ||
| materials, and winners advance to the Texas BEST contest at Texas | ||
| A&M University; and | ||
| WHEREAS, During the team's visit to the seat of state | ||
| government, the Capitol will showcase the innovative work of these | ||
| outstanding students, and this unusual event represents an | ||
| excellent opportunity to admire the ingenuity, enthusiasm, and | ||
| discipline of the members of the Chap Robotics team; now, | ||
| therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby welcome the Westlake High School Chap Robotics | ||
| team to the State Capitol and extend to the team's members and | ||
| sponsors sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it | ||
| further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for Chap Robotics as an expression of high regard by the | ||
| Texas House of Representatives. | ||
