R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The Akiba Academy has provided a quality education |
|
to Dallas children for nearly five decades; and |
|
WHEREAS, Accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges |
|
and Schools, Akiba serves an enrollment of about 280 with a |
|
curriculum that combines general studies in language, science, |
|
mathematics, social studies, music, computers, and the arts with a |
|
Judaic program based on the Torah; the school fosters a strong |
|
connection to Israel through instruction in Hebrew and in the |
|
history and culture of the country; and |
|
WHEREAS, The skilled teachers at Akiba give students |
|
individual attention in academics and help them develop pride in |
|
their heritage and knowledge of the world around them; the school |
|
offers infant care and prekindergarten as well as kindergarten |
|
through eighth grade, and shares a new, state-of-the-art campus |
|
with the Yavneh Academy, a college-preparatory high school; the |
|
Schultz Rosenberg Campus won a 2006 Judges' Award for Design from |
|
Texas Construction magazine and enhances study through such |
|
features as a central technology room, science laboratories, and |
|
arts facilities; and |
|
WHEREAS, Committed to the greater community, Akiba nurtures |
|
an appreciation of civic engagement through a requirement that all |
|
students from grades one through eight participate in service |
|
projects; ensuring students a well-rounded experience, the school |
|
also supports an athletic program with championship teams in |
|
volleyball and basketball and such extracurricular activities as |
|
ballet, martial arts, chess club, and choir; and |
|
WHEREAS, Akiba Academy is a member of the Texas Association |
|
of Non-Public Schools, the National Society of Hebrew Day Schools, |
|
and the Association of Modern Orthodox Day Schools; it was the first |
|
private elementary school in Dallas to be cited for excellence by |
|
the United States Department of Education, and its preschool |
|
program has been chosen as one of 13 model sites in the nation by the |
|
Jewish Early Childhood Educational Initiative; and |
|
WHEREAS, Since 1962, the dedicated faculty, administration, |
|
and staff of Akiba Academy have worked to create a rich and |
|
challenging educational environment, helping children grow to |
|
become responsible, caring, and productive citizens of the Lone |
|
Star State; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature hereby recognize Akiba Academy of Dallas for its |
|
contributions and achievements and extend to all those associated |
|
with the school best wishes for continued success; and, be it |
|
further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Akiba Academy as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
