R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Marvin Lane Dameron was named a 2007 Distinguished
  Alumnus by the Midway High School Alumni Association for his many
  contributions to Midway Independent School District; and
         WHEREAS, After graduating from Midway High School in 1950,
  Mr. Dameron earned his bachelor's degree from Howard Payne
  University and went on to receive a master's degree in education
  administration from Baylor University in 1964; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Dameron began his career in education at
  Bruceville-Eddy, serving as a teacher, coach, and principal before
  joining Midway schools three years later; in addition to coaching
  high school football, track, and basketball, he taught sixth grade
  arithmetic and general science; and
         WHEREAS, In 1962, Mr. Dameron became an elementary school
  principal, and he developed and taught a pilot program in physical
  education for elementary students; his dedicated efforts earned him
  the position of district superintendent, and he again brought an
  innovative eye to the role; and
         WHEREAS, Embracing new initiatives and technology, Mr.
  Dameron brought ROTC and horticulture programs to his schools and,
  under his able guidance, Midway became the first district in the
  area to acquire computers for classrooms and for administrative
  billing and payroll purposes; moreover, he oversaw significant
  expansion, including construction of a high school, three
  elementary schools, and an athletic complex, as well as additions
  to another campus; when he concluded his exemplary career in 1989,
  construction was underway on a fifth elementary school; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Dameron has shared his time and expertise with a
  number of worthwhile organizations; he holds a lifetime membership
  in the Midway PTA and the Texas Association of School
  Administrators and is a Midway ISD Athletic Hall of Fame honoree; he
  is also a charter member of the local chapter of the Lions Club and
  the Northwest Waco Rotary Club and a member of the McLennan County
  Men's Republican Club; and
         WHEREAS, He has been married for 42 years to his wife, Mary
  Ann, and is an active member of the First Methodist Church at Eddy,
  where he serves as the assistant financial director and member of
  the building and trustee committees; and
         WHEREAS, Marvin Dameron has devoted his career to the
  education of young Texans; he served Midway ISD with distinction,
  and his significant record of achievement as an educator,
  administrator, and community leader merits special recognition;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Marvin Lane Dameron on being named
  a Distinguished Alumnus by the Midway High School Alumni
  Association and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Dameron as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
