H.R. No. 1921
 
 
 
R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Members of First Lutheran Church in Waco are joining
  together on April 19, 2009, to celebrate the 125th anniversary of
  the founding of the institution; and
         WHEREAS, Originally called Scandinavian Evangelical Lutheran
  Ebenezer Congregation, the church was established by Norwegian
  immigrants in 1884; eight years later, the First Lutheran Church
  Women was organized; and
         WHEREAS, Through the decades, First Lutheran has reached out
  to the community with a number of notable programs; in addition to
  sponsoring Boy Scouts of America Troop 18, the congregation helped
  to establish the Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home to provide housing
  for seniors, created the Student Assistance Fund to support
  Lutheran students at Baylor University, and served as a Meals on
  Wheels site for more than 35 years; currently, the church also
  offers a program providing free and low-cost legal aid to people in
  need; and
         WHEREAS, For 125 years, First Lutheran Church in Waco has
  provided steadfast spiritual and moral guidance to the community it
  serves, and its continued existence is a tribute to the commitment
  and faith of its leaders and members, past and present; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate the 125th anniversary of First
  Lutheran Church in Waco and extend to the members of the
  congregation best wishes for a memorable and meaningful anniversary
  observance; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the church as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
