R E S O L U T I O N

  life to developing, implementing, and expanding the organization
  Christmas in Action; and
         WHEREAS, A volunteer program, Christmas in Action aims to
  improve the lives of less fortunate members of the community; Mr.
  Trimble conceived of the program during a Sunday school lesson on
  the social responsibilities of people of faith; taking this
  teaching to heart, he organized a group of like-minded citizens and
  began Christmas In April (CIA); under his able leadership, people
  began donating their time, resources, and labor to make small
  repairs to the homes of the elderly and disabled in Midland; and
         WHEREAS, Enthusiasm and interest in the program grew, and in
  May of 1976, Mr. Trimble helped to establish a formal organization
  by creating a CIA board of directors and becoming its first
  president; as word of CIA's good work spread, he was called upon,
  and graciously assented, to help other communities across the state
  and nation start similar programs; and
         WHEREAS, In addition to its efforts to maintain and improve
  individual residences, CIA accepted responsibility for building a
  HUD apartment complex to house low-income elderly; Langtry Village
  was completed in May 1986, and Mr. Trimble continues to serve as its
  president; and
         WHEREAS, His concept of assisting a vulnerable segment of
  local society has grown tremendously since its humble beginnings;
  rechristened Christmas in Action in 2001, the program has repaired
  more than 8,000 homes, and more than 47,000 volunteers have given
  their time and energy to help the elderly and disabled in the
  community; for his efforts, Mr. Trimble received the Governor's
  Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service in 1981, and the
  President's Volunteer Action Award in April 1982; and
         WHEREAS, The mission of Christmas in Action has remained
  unchanged since first articulated by Mr. Trimble: those who are
  able have a duty to help those who are unable to help themselves;
  despite nearing 80 years of age, Bobby Trimble continues to set an
  example of service and commitment, devoting his hard labor and
  considerable organizational talents so that others may live in
  safety, warmth, and independence; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Bobby Trimble on his efforts with
  Christmas in Action and extend to him sincere best wishes for
