R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Dr. Angela Gardner of Grapevine has been named
  president-elect of the American College of Emergency Physicians;
  and
         WHEREAS, After earning her medical degree at the Texas Tech
  Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, Dr. Gardner completed a
  transitional internship and an emergency medicine residency at
  Texas Tech Regional Academic Health Center in El Paso; she is
  currently serving as an assistant professor in the department of
  surgery at The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston; in
  addition to teaching and treating patients, Dr. Gardner is active
  in the field of emergency medicine and is an advocate of preserving
  patients' access to quality emergency care; she also played a key
  role in the passage of medical liability reform in Texas, and she
  hopes to bring about similar changes at the national level; and
         WHEREAS, Founded in 1968, ACEP is the oldest and largest
  national medical specialty organization representing physicians
  who practice emergency medicine; with more than 22,000 members, the
  organization sponsors a continuing education program, monitors
  trends in the health care environment, and analyzes issues
  affecting emergency physicians and their patients; ACEP also works
  to affect public policy through its Washington, D.C., office, and
  it publishes newsletters and a monthly journal, Annals of Emergency
  Medicine; and
         WHEREAS, Having held various leadership positions in both the
  Texas chapter and the national organization, Dr. Gardner brings her
  extensive experience to ACEP as its president-elect; she has served
  on its board of directors for six years and as its vice president;
  she was also president of Texas ACEP in 2003 and the chair of the
  National Report Card Task Force in 2006; and
         WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan has long demonstrated a profound
  commitment to her profession, and she may indeed reflect with great
  pride on her notable achievements as she takes on this new role;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Angela Gardner on her election
  as president of the American College of Emergency Physicians and
  extend to her sincere best wishes for a successful tenure; and, be
  it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Dr. Gardner as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
