R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Bringing a memorable season to a triumphant close,
  the Brock High School girls' basketball team claimed the 2009
  University Interscholastic League 2A state championship with a
  victory in the title game on March 7; and
         WHEREAS, Matching up against the team from Woodville High
  School, the Brock Lady Eagles combined relentless defense with a
  high-powered scoring attack to build a double-digit lead in the
  first half and then went on to register a commanding 61-32 win; and
         WHEREAS, The 2008-2009 Lady Eagles carried on their school's
  impressive winning tradition; Brock has now made 15 appearances in
  the state tournament, and this year's championship was the school's
  fourth since 2002; and
         WHEREAS, In proving itself the state's finest 2A team, Brock
  received outstanding contributions from each member of the squad:
  Kamy Cole, Amy Edwards, Shelbi Jones, Savannah Fisher, Dana Jones,
  Kambrie Shoush, Kayce Gilman, Payton Shoush, Dayla Jones, Hattie
  Smith, Kenisha Harris, Haley Aaron, Paige Parliament, and Linsey
  Hays; eight of the Lady Eagles received all-district honors this
  season, and Ms. Harris was named the most valuable player of the
  state tournament; and
         WHEREAS, These talented student-athletes were guided by head
  coach Skip Townsend and assistant coaches Chance Westmoreland and
  Sammye Townsend, who provided the team with the skills, strategy,
  and inspiration that took them to the top; and
         WHEREAS, Winning a state title is the result of countless
  hours of hard work and an enduring commitment to excellence, and the
  members of the Lady Eagles basketball team may take justifiable
  pride in this exceptional achievement; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the Brock High School girls'
  basketball team on winning the University Interscholastic League 2A
  state championship and commend the players, coaches, and staff for
  a job well done during the 2008-2009 season; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
