H.R. No. 2024
 
 
 
R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Houston police officer Rick Salter, a man of
  extraordinary courage and commitment, was gravely wounded in the
  line of duty on March 5, 2009; and
         WHEREAS, Officer Salter was shot while leading the effort to
  serve a felony search warrant, and although he has a long road of
  recovery ahead of him, his courage and inner resolve are helping to
  sustain him during this difficult time; his assailant was an
  illegal immigrant with previous drug arrests; and
         WHEREAS, A 28-year veteran of law enforcement, Officer Salter
  has been on the front lines for much of his career, facing danger on
  a regular basis as a point man on an elite squad specializing in
  narcotics investigations; not content to retire or to take a desk
  job, he chose instead to share his expertise with his peers as a
  mentor to younger officers; and
         WHEREAS, Officer Salter is one of many dedicated police
  officers who place themselves in harm's way daily to make the world
  safer for others, and the hard work and skill that he has brought to
  his profession have earned him the respect and admiration of all who
  know him; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Officer Rick Salter for his brave
  service and extend to him sincere best wishes for a swift and full
  recovery; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Officer Salter as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
