R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Donald R. Butts has deservedly been named the |
|
Distinguished Houston Surgeon of the Year for 2009 by the Houston |
|
Surgical Society; and |
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Butts has devoted his career to the practice of |
|
surgical medicine, and he has maintained an admirable record of |
|
achievement over the course of four decades; in 1970, he helped |
|
found the Colon and Rectal Clinic in Houston, and he has led that |
|
practice as president in the years since; moreover, he has gained |
|
further acclaim among his peers for his other professional |
|
endeavors, which have included service as chief of staff at Houston |
|
Northwest Medical Center and as a clinical associate at The |
|
University of Texas Medical School at Houston; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born in DeKalb in 1935, Donald Butts graduated from |
|
Marlin High School in 1953 and went on to earn a bachelor's degree |
|
at North Texas State University in 1958; four years later, he |
|
graduated from The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, |
|
and he completed his internship and residency at Memorial Hermann |
|
Hospital in Houston between 1962 and 1970, taking time out for two |
|
years of service in the U.S. Navy; moreover, Dr. Butts took part in |
|
the fellowship program at The University of Texas Health Sciences |
|
Center at Houston and had the distinction of being its first |
|
graduate; and |
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Butts was the recipient of the Violet Keiller |
|
Award in 1969 and the Dr. Ed Roberson Award from Houston Northwest |
|
Medical Center in 2004; a well-known figure in his profession, he is |
|
active in numerous medical organizations and has served as |
|
president of the Harris County Medical Society and as a member of |
|
the Cancer Committee and the Patient-Physician Advocate Committee |
|
of the Texas Medical Association; and |
|
WHEREAS, A surgeon of great ability and extensive experience, |
|
Donald Butts has won the respect of his peers and the gratitude of |
|
his patients, and his accomplishments have contributed to the City |
|
of Houston's renown as a center for skilled medical care; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Donald R. Butts on his |
|
selection as the Distinguished Houston Surgeon for 2009 by the |
|
Houston Surgical Society and extend to him sincere best wishes for |
|
continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Dr. Butts as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
