R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Verda Herrington is retiring as assistant band
  director at Clint Small, Jr. Middle School in Austin, drawing to a
  close a notable career in music education that has spanned four
  decades; and
         WHEREAS, A native of Freer, Ms. Herrington studied trumpet at
  The University of Texas at Austin, where she earned her bachelor's
  degree in music education and her master's degree in music
  literature; and
         WHEREAS, During her distinguished career in music education,
  Ms. Herrington has served as director of bands at Alamo Junior High
  School in Midland, Webb Middle School and Anderson High School in
  Austin, Kleb Intermediate School and Klein High School in Klein,
  and Westview Middle School and Pflugerville High School in
  Pflugerville; and
         WHEREAS, Since 2004, Ms. Herrington has assisted with the
  Symphonic Winds and the Wind Ensemble at Small Middle School, where
  she has also taught beginning clarinet, tuba, and trumpet; and
         WHEREAS, Throughout her 40-year career, this outstanding
  music educator has led both high school and junior high school bands
  to highest honors at University Interscholastic League contests,
  and many of her students have gone on to distinguished careers as
  performers, conductors, and music teachers; moreover, Ms.
  Herrington has been inducted into the Phi Beta Mu Hall of Fame; and
         WHEREAS, Verda Herrington's dedication, professionalism, and
  lifelong commitment to music education have greatly benefited her
  students, and she may indeed reflect with pride on a career well
  spent as she embarks on the next exciting chapter of her life; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Verda Herrington on her retirement
  from Clint Small, Jr. Middle School and extend to her sincere best
  wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Herrington as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
