| WHEREAS, Paulette Rainey is retiring as band director at | ||
| Clint Small, Jr. Middle School in Austin in 2009, drawing to a close | ||
| a notable career in music education that has spanned four decades; | ||
| and | ||
| WHEREAS, A native of Paris, Texas, Ms. Rainey studied music | ||
| there with Floyd and Irene Weger; she later studied flute with John | ||
| Hicks at The University of Texas at Austin, where she earned her | ||
| bachelor's degree in music education and her master's degree in | ||
| conducting and pursued doctoral studies in music theory; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Ms. Rainey has distinguished herself as a music | ||
| teacher at a number of schools in the Austin Independent School | ||
| District, including Baker Junior High School, O. Henry Middle | ||
| School, Lanier High School, and Lamar Middle School; and | ||
| WHEREAS, In 2003, Ms. Rainey became the assistant band | ||
| director at Clint Small, Jr. Middle School, and she was promoted to | ||
| head band director in 2006; she has taught beginning flute, oboe, | ||
| trombone, and euphonium, and she has conducted the Wind Ensemble | ||
| and the Jazz Band and assisted with the Symphonic Winds; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Under her leadership, the Clint Small band has | ||
| performed exceptionally well at University Interscholastic League | ||
| competitions, and she conducted the Wind Ensemble in a special | ||
| performance for music educators at the Midwest Band and Orchestra | ||
| Clinic in Chicago in December 2008; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Ms. Rainey's dedication, professionalism, and | ||
| commitment to music education have greatly benefited her students | ||
| over the years, and she may indeed reflect with pride on a career | ||
| well-spent as she embarks on the next exciting chapter of her life; | ||
| now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby congratulate Paulette Rainey on her retirement | ||
| from Clint Small, Jr. Middle School and extend to her sincere best | ||
| wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for Ms. Rainey as an expression of high regard by the Texas | ||
| House of Representatives. | ||
