R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of William |
|
Kelly Young of Fort Worth, who passed away on April 13, 2009, at the |
|
age of 75; and |
|
WHEREAS, The fourth son of Marshall and Margaret Kelly Young, |
|
Kelly Young was born on October 14, 1933, in Fort Worth; he went on |
|
to graduate from Arlington Heights High School in 1951, and he later |
|
completed a two-year tour of duty as a radar technician with the |
|
United States Army; in 1958, he earned a bachelor's degree in |
|
geology from Washington and Lee University in Virginia; and |
|
WHEREAS, The following year, Mr. Young joined his father at |
|
Marshall R. Young Oil Company, where he was responsible for |
|
securing leases and funding for prospects, and he became a highly |
|
regarded leader within the local oil and gas industry; after their |
|
father's passing in 1976, Mr. Young and his brothers continued to |
|
operate their successful family business; and |
|
WHEREAS, Kelly Young generously supported numerous area |
|
organizations, and he was on the boards of Continental National |
|
Bank, the Lena Pope Home, and the Recovery Resource Council; in |
|
addition, he served as president of the Glass House, and he was a |
|
member of Steeplechase, the Exchange Club of Fort Worth, the Fort |
|
Worth Wildcatters, River Crest Country Club, and the Fort Worth |
|
Club; and |
|
WHEREAS, Outside of his professional and civic involvement, |
|
Mr. Young took great pleasure in raising horses on his ranch in |
|
Weatherford, and in playing golf and traveling; he also enjoyed |
|
entertaining his friends and family by singing and playing the |
|
piano, and he was an avid collector of Americana and Texas folk art; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Kelly Young demonstrated both confidence and |
|
humility in his everyday life, and those fortunate enough to have |
|
shared in his love and friendship will forever treasure their |
|
memories of this caring and easygoing Texan; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of William Kelly Young |
|
and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his |
|
children, Shannon Young Ray and her husband, Breck, Alison Young |
|
and her husband, Clif Wright, William Kelly Young, Jr., and Hunter |
|
Young and his wife, Amy; to his grandchildren, Breck, Peter, |
|
Carson, Taylor, and Megan Ray, EvaClaire and Henry Wright, and |
|
Evelyn and Eleanor Young; to his brother, George M. Young and his |
|
wife, Diane; to his nieces and nephews, Margie Lilly, Kelly Ann |
|
Ewin, George M. Young, Jr., Sherman Young, and Marshall Young; to |
|
his 17 great-nieces and great-nephews; to his cousins, Pope Kelly |
|
and Robert Young; to his godchildren, Annette Williamson and Cece |
|
French Miles; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be |
|
it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of William |
|
Kelly Young. |
