R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, For 110 years, families have come together to |
|
celebrate their faith at Saint John Missionary Baptist Church in |
|
Houston; and |
|
WHEREAS, Established on August 7, 1899, Saint John Missionary |
|
Baptist Church has since played a vital role in the community, |
|
providing area residents with myriad opportunities for spiritual |
|
growth, fellowship, and community outreach; its worthwhile |
|
programs include jail and youth ministries, the We Do Recover |
|
Ministry for those overcoming health and substance abuse problems, |
|
and the Missionary Ministry that assists the less fortunate; and |
|
WHEREAS, The congregation has benefited from the able |
|
leadership of 12 dedicated pastors through the decades, and today |
|
that tradition of service continues under the direction of Keven D. |
|
Johnson, who has ministered at Saint John since 2007; and |
|
WHEREAS, Saint John Missionary Baptist Church has long served |
|
as a source of inspiration and guidance to those who worship there, |
|
and its continued existence is a tribute to the unwavering |
|
commitment of its members, both past and present; now, therefore, |
|
be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the 110th anniversary of Saint John |
|
Missionary Baptist Church and extend to the congregation sincere |
|
best wishes for many more years of shared prayer and fellowship; |
|
and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the church as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
