R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, For nearly five decades, members of the Lake |
|
Highlands Exchange Club have worked with great dedication to make a |
|
positive difference in their community; and |
|
WHEREAS, The first Exchange Club was founded in Detroit, |
|
Michigan, in 1911, by a group of citizens who wanted to share ideas |
|
and information that would enhance their service to their city; |
|
within a few years, three more Exchange Clubs sprang up in Michigan |
|
and Ohio, and the National Exchange Club was established as a |
|
nonprofit educational organization in 1917; since then, hundreds of |
|
clubs have been chartered across the United States and in Puerto |
|
Rico, and members currently number nearly 28,000; known as |
|
America's Service Club, the organization works to strengthen |
|
communities across the nation by promoting patriotism and |
|
volunteerism, sponsoring youth activities, and working to prevent |
|
child abuse; and |
|
WHEREAS, The Exchange Club of Lake Highlands received its |
|
charter on December 4, 1961; today, the group is one of the |
|
fastest-growing Exchange Clubs in the nation, with a dynamic |
|
membership that takes part in a wide range of activities in behalf |
|
of the community; led by current president Stan Scates, the club |
|
supports its mission in many ways, including by sponsoring a |
|
student awards program, recognizing local residents serving in the |
|
armed forces, and contributing to the Child Abuse Prevention Center |
|
in East Dallas; and |
|
WHEREAS, Through their steadfast commitment to their |
|
community, the members of the Exchange Club of Lake Highlands have |
|
enriched the lives of many area Texans and earned the sincere |
|
admiration and appreciation of their fellow citizens; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commend the members of the Exchange Club of Lake |
|
Highlands for their notable contributions and extend to them best |
|
wishes for continued success in their endeavors; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
