R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, For nearly two decades, Dr. Fred M. Zaunbrecher of |
|
League City has operated a free medical clinic for homeless people |
|
in Galveston, and for this he has been named a 2009 Unsung Hero by |
|
the Galveston County Daily News; and |
|
WHEREAS, Along with his wife, Michele, Dr. "Fritz" |
|
Zaunbrecher founded the Luke Society Clinic in 1980 to coordinate |
|
medical mission projects, and in 1995 they began the Luke Society |
|
Medical Mission to the Homeless, an outside clinic in Galveston |
|
staffed by volunteer physicians, nurses, and lay workers; the |
|
clinic, which is named for the biblical Luke who wrote about the |
|
compassion of Jesus, is open every Saturday and provides a range of |
|
care; and |
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Zaunbrecher grew up in Louisiana, where he |
|
admired the work of his grandfather, a horse-and-buggy doctor; he |
|
and his wife decided to make their home on the Texas coast after |
|
moving to Galveston for a fellowship at The University of Texas |
|
Medical Branch, and he is today employed as an internist in Texas |
|
City; and |
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Fritz Zaunbrecher has made a positive difference |
|
in the lives of many of Galveston's most vulnerable residents, and |
|
his outstanding humanitarian efforts are indeed deserving of |
|
recognition; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Fred M. Zaunbrecher on being |
|
named a 2009 Unsung Hero by the Galveston County Daily News and |
|
extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success with his |
|
important work; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Dr. Zaunbrecher as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
