R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Eleanor Grant of Galveston has deservedly been named
  a 2009 Unsung Hero by the Galveston County Daily News; and
         WHEREAS, A dedicated volunteer, Mrs. Grant was chosen for
  this accolade based on her enduring commitment to serving her
  community, including her work in behalf of area youth, the elderly,
  and the poor; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Grant and her husband, Dr. J. Andrew Grant,
  came to Galveston in 1973; she has worked as a math teacher at Ball
  High School, and she also conducted gifted education classes at
  Central Middle School; Dr. Grant is a professor of medicine and
  microbiology, and he founded the state's first basic research
  laboratory and training program in allergy and immunology at The
  University of Texas Medical Branch; and
         WHEREAS, For more than three decades, Mrs. Grant has devoted
  countless hours to such organizations as Meals on Wheels, Hospice
  of Galveston County, The Jesse Tree, The UTMB Faculty Women's Club,
  and the League of Women Voters; in addition, she helped create the
  Galveston Academic Excellence Booster Club, which underwrites
  programs, events, and activities for students and teachers who have
  demonstrated outstanding achievement; a woman of strong faith, Mrs.
  Grant has also been active in ministries of the First Presbyterian
  Church, and she is a longtime supporter of the arts, as well as of
  the local library; and
         WHEREAS, Through her selflessness and compassion, Eleanor
  Grant has garnered the lasting respect and appreciation of her
  fellow residents, and she may indeed reflect with great pride on the
  positive impact she has had on her community; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby honor Eleanor Grant on her selection as a 2009
  Unsung Hero by the Galveston County Daily News and commend her for
  her many acts of goodwill; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mrs. Grant as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
