R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Meat Animal Evaluation Team of Texas Tech
  University took the top prize at the National Meat Animal
  Evaluation Contest at the Oklahoma City Stockyards and Oklahoma
  State University on March 26 and 27, 2009; and
         WHEREAS, This is the third year in a row that the team from
  Texas Tech has won this prestigious national competition, which
  encourages students to reach a more complete understanding of the
  food supply chain from conception to consumer; and
         WHEREAS, Representing the Department of Meat Science and
  Muscle Biology, the Texas Tech team won the swine, beef evaluation,
  breeding animal, market animal, and communication divisions, and
  placed second in the meat and sheep divisions, earning 8,693
  points, which put them 336 points above the second-place team; and
         WHEREAS, Team member Drew Perez earned the highest number of
  individual points, while Ben Cammack, Cade Halfmann, Josh Flohr,
  and Henry Ruiz finished in the top 10; and
         WHEREAS, Coached by Ryan Rathmann, Judd Gardner, and Travis
  O'Quinn, the winning team also includes Tyler Cowie, Micah Dorsey,
  Shayna Dunlap, Paige Futrell, Josh Hasty, C. A. Jones, Matthew
  Morales, Trae Simmons, Olivia Tilly, Austin Voyles, and Shanna
  Ward; and
         WHEREAS, These noteworthy Tech students have demonstrated
  tremendous commitment, talent, and hard work to achieve this
  national championship title, and they truly merit special
  recognition; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the Texas Tech University Meat
  Animal Evaluation Team on winning first place at the 2009 National
  Meat Animal Evaluation Contest and extend to the team members and
  their coaches sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
