R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The Bluebonnet Youth Ranch near Yoakum has made a |
|
positive difference in the lives of Texas children for four |
|
decades; and |
|
WHEREAS, This nonprofit organization dates back to 1968, when |
|
a group of Yoakum businessmen pooled their funds to provide a home |
|
for five needy siblings; they soon discovered, however, the need |
|
for licensing by the state; word spread through the community, and |
|
following a generous donation of 45 acres and a successful |
|
fund-raising campaign, they were able to open an official |
|
residential home for dependent, abused, and neglected children; and |
|
WHEREAS, Since its inception, the Bluebonnet Youth Ranch has |
|
cared for nearly 400 children from infancy to 18 years of age; |
|
residents live in one of three cottages on the property, each |
|
overseen by a permanent set of houseparents, and participate in |
|
such day-to-day activities as household chores, recreation, and |
|
study; they attend school and church in the community and help tend |
|
to the ranch's animals and garden; and |
|
WHEREAS, Bluebonnet works to further the education of any |
|
child who graduates while in its care by assisting with both |
|
financial and emotional support, and it also helps residents with |
|
career planning; and |
|
WHEREAS, Demonstrating an unwavering commitment to the |
|
health and well-being of children and youth, the Bluebonnet Youth |
|
Ranch benefits society as a whole, and its notable history is indeed |
|
deserving of recognition; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor the Bluebonnet Youth Ranch near Yoakum on |
|
its 40th anniversary and extend to all those associated with the |
|
ranch sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Bluebonnet Youth Ranch as an expression of high regard |
|
by the Texas House of Representatives. |
