R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Members of the Angleton Danbury Medical Center
  Auxiliary are celebrating the organization's 40th anniversary
  during 2009; and
         WHEREAS, Six women from the Second Baptist Church founded the
  auxiliary in 1969, after hearing of plans to build a local hospital;
  members of the original all-female group, known as the "Ladies in
  Blue" for their blue pinstripe pinafores and matching caps, were
  responsible for staffing the information desk, operating the
  switchboard, and working as floor hostesses; and
         WHEREAS, Today more than 300 men and women belong to the
  auxiliary, with at least half of them serving as regular
  volunteers; they work in all areas of the hospital and also offer
  rides to and from the parking lot by golf cart; and
         WHEREAS, In addition to carrying out their day-to-day work,
  members raise money to help pay for hospital equipment and other
  items; over the last four decades, they have collected more than $1
  million through gift shop sales, hospital vending machines, bake
  sales, and an annual benefit concert; moreover, the auxiliary
  provides six college scholarships for local youth; and
         WHEREAS, Dedicated to the health of the community, the
  auxiliary works with the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center to
  sponsor monthly blood drives; these events have been recognized
  numerous times for the high numbers of donations they are able to
  collect, averaging 100 each month; and
         WHEREAS, Special recognition is due for charter members who
  have maintained their affiliation with the group since the
  beginning; these include Helen Brittian, Lula Clark, Wanda DuBose,
  Beth Duncan, Jackie Fletcher, Patsy Lawson, Sara McDaniel, Frances
  McDuff, Jean Mottesheard, Dorothy Jane Neal, Gayle Parsons, Bobbye
  Peltier, Frances Tomlin, Betty Rose Wollam, and Gina Wollam; and
         WHEREAS, For 40 years, the Angleton Danbury Medical Center
  Auxiliary has exemplified the hospital's motto, "Friends and
  neighbors caring for friends and neighbors," and the outstanding
  efforts of its members, both past and present, are indeed worthy of
  commendation; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby honor the 40th anniversary of the Angleton
  Danbury Medical Center Auxiliary and extend to all those associated
  with the organization sincere best wishes for continued success;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the auxiliary as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
