R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Texas Child Study Center at Dell Children's
  Medical Center of Central Texas is working to fill the critical need
  for mental health services for area children and adolescents; and
         WHEREAS, A collaboration between the medical center and The
  University of Texas Educational Psychology Department, the Texas
  Child Study Center opened on September 15, 2008, with the mission of
  providing comprehensive mental health services to all children in
  the 46-county region of Central Texas; Dr. William Streusand serves
  as the center's medical director, as well as chief of psychiatry at
  Dell Children's Medical Center, and Dr. Kevin Stark serves as the
  center's clinical director of psychology, as well as a professor in
  the UT Department of Educational Psychology; and
         WHEREAS, The center is guided by five goals, which include
  providing evidence-based treatment for children with emotional and
  cognitive diagnoses, training clinicians to work in a
  collaborative, multidisciplinary environment, advancing
  evidence-based care through research programs, developing programs
  to address autism spectrum disorders, depression, and other issues,
  and serving the emotional and cognitive needs of acute and chronic
  medically ill children and their families; and
         WHEREAS, During day to day operations, the center remains
  focused on such core mental health services as psychiatric and
  psychological evaluations, neuropsych and projective psychological
  testing, several types of therapy, parenting sessions, medication
  management, and workshop trainings for community professionals; a
  significant portion of its clients and patients are those on
  Medicaid or the Children's Health Insurance Plan and also those who
  have no financial means, and the center is supported in part by the
  generosity of private patrons; and
         WHEREAS, Mental health issues interfere with the way people
  think, feel, and behave, affecting all aspects of their lives, and
  their prevalence among youth in Central Texas is considered by many
  to be a public health crisis; the Texas Child Study Center serves as
  a vital source of high quality, compassionate mental health care
  that is making a positive difference in the lives of countless
  people; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby honor the Texas Child Study Center at Dell
  Children's Medical Center of Central Texas and extend to all those
  associated with the center sincere best wishes for continued
  success with their important work; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the Texas Child Study Center as an expression of high
  regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
