R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Joan Rust is retiring from Jane Long Elementary |
|
School in Abilene in 2009, drawing to a close a notable 35-year |
|
career as an educator; and |
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Rust began her career as a teacher in 1963, |
|
teaching second grade in Bryan, and she went on to teach for Head |
|
Start in Fort Worth from 1968 to 1970; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 1979, Ms. Rust began teaching for the Abilene |
|
Independent School District, and over the next 30 years, she |
|
distinguished herself teaching for Head Start, for the Basic Skills |
|
Program, and as a fifth-grade teacher; and |
|
WHEREAS, During that time, this outstanding educator has also |
|
contributed to her school as the Author/Illustrator coordinator, |
|
the Theater Club coordinator, and, since 2005, the Spelling Bee |
|
coordinator; and |
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Rust has been active in her profession as well, |
|
as a member of the National Education Association and the Texas |
|
State Teachers Association since 1963, and since 1992, as a member |
|
of the American Business Women's Association; and |
|
WHEREAS, For 35 years, Joan Rust has been a dynamic and |
|
inspirational teacher, earning the respect of her fellow teachers |
|
and the admiration and affection of generations of students, and |
|
she may indeed reflect with pride on a career well-spent as she |
|
embarks on the next exciting chapter of her life; now, therefore, be |
|
it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Joan Rust on her retirement from |
|
Jane Long Elementary School and extend to her sincere best wishes |
|
for continued happiness; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Ms. Rust as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
