R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, For the second consecutive year, CPS Energy has been |
|
|
ranked number one in wind energy capacity among municipal utilities |
|
|
by the American Wind Energy Association; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, CPS Energy was further honored by AWEA as the |
|
|
Municipal Utility of the Year for its continued growth and |
|
|
leadership in renewable wind energy; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The nation's largest municipally owned energy |
|
|
company, CPS Energy serves some 690,000 electric and nearly 320,000 |
|
|
natural gas customers in and around San Antonio; it currently |
|
|
receives approximately 578 megawatts of wind power from three |
|
|
sources, including the Cottonwood Creek, Desert Sky, and Penascal |
|
|
Wind Farms; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, CPS Energy is working to reach an ambitious goal of |
|
|
having 20 percent of peak energy demand powered by renewable energy |
|
|
by the year 2020; through its program Windtricity, customers can |
|
|
opt to purchase wind power to help meet their energy needs; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Committed to doing its part to protect the |
|
|
environment and conserve natural resources, CPS Energy has set an |
|
|
outstanding example of public responsibility, and San Antonio |
|
|
residents may indeed take pride in this visionary municipal |
|
|
utility; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby honor CPS Energy on being ranked number one in |
|
|
wind energy capacity among municipal utilities by the American Wind |
|
|
Energy Association and on being named the Municipal Utility of the |
|
|
Year and extend to all those associated with the organization |
|
|
sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for CPS Energy as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
