R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The courage and decisiveness of Officer Christopher
  M. Sellers of the Houston Police Department have been recognized
  with the 2008 State of Texas Law Enforcement Achievement Award for
  Valor; and
         WHEREAS, A law enforcement professional with 13 years of
  experience, Officer Sellers was visiting an apartment complex with
  his partner on the morning of September 17, 2008, when he heard a
  child screaming for help; and
         WHEREAS, Following the screams, Officer Sellers came into an
  alley and found a man with a sawed-off shotgun grabbing a young boy;
  when the officer tried to reach the boy, the assailant held on and
  pointed his weapon at the boy's head; and
         WHEREAS, Officer Sellers fired on and wounded the suspect,
  who released the boy and fell to his knees; as his partner helped
  the boy, Officer Sellers ordered the suspect to drop his gun, and
  when the man refused, the officer was forced to fire again; and
         WHEREAS, The suspect was a drug user with a history of
  threatening the children in the neighborhood; in this difficult and
  dangerous situation, Officer Sellers put the safety of the young
  boy above all else, and his swift and decisive action saved the life
  of the child and made the neighborhood safer; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Officer Christopher Sellers on his
  receipt of the 2008 State of Texas Law Enforcement Achievement
  Award for Valor and extend to him sincere best wishes for the
  future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Officer Sellers as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
