R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Aviance Kelechi Obie was honored for her |
|
|
achievements at the Reginald Keith Guillory Scholarship Luncheon on |
|
|
April 18, 2009; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This gathering recognized 23 students who have |
|
|
distinguished themselves through their academic pursuits and civic |
|
|
involvement; the awards pay tribute to the memory of Reginald Keith |
|
|
Guillory, a student, musician, and member of Mount Pleasant Baptist |
|
|
Church in Houston, whose tragic death in an automobile accident at |
|
|
the age of 18 prompted area residents to create a scholarship fund; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Aviance Obie is the daughter of Ernest and Edna |
|
|
Obie; she is a fifth-grade student at Valley West Elementary School |
|
|
and a member of the Redeemed Christian Church of God Dominion |
|
|
Chapel; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Obie was recognized with the Principal's Honors |
|
|
Award in each of the last three years and by the City of Houston |
|
|
Summer Reading Program in 2007; she enjoys playing the piano and has |
|
|
earned a green belt in karate; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This fine young Texan is an exemplary member of her |
|
|
community and a source of tremendous pride to her family and |
|
|
teachers, and she may indeed look with anticipation and optimism |
|
|
toward the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Aviance Kelechi Obie on being named |
|
|
a 2009 honoree at the Reginald Keith Guillory Scholarship Luncheon |
|
|
and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success in all |
|
|
of her endeavors; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Ms. Obie as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
