R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The education of young Texans is a vital enterprise |
|
for every school in the Lone Star State, and Our Mother of Mercy |
|
Parochial School in Houston has been dedicated to that worthy goal |
|
for eight decades; and |
|
WHEREAS, Opened in 1930, the institution was established to |
|
provide schoolchildren in the Fifth Ward with a quality education |
|
in a religious environment; in the first year, enrollment exceeded |
|
100, and soon the original two-story brick structure was outgrown; |
|
in 1940, a new building was constructed, complete with high school |
|
facilities; and |
|
WHEREAS, The school currently serves 560 students in |
|
kindergarten through ninth grade, under the able guidance of the |
|
Sisters of the Holy Family and Father John B. Doyle; and |
|
WHEREAS, Over the course of its rich history, Our Mother of |
|
Mercy Parochial School has educated thousands of Fifth Ward |
|
students and provided a foundation on which they could build |
|
rewarding and fulfilling lives; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commend all those associated with Our Mother of |
|
Mercy Parochial School for their efforts in behalf of the youth of |
|
Houston and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued |
|
success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
