R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the heartache felt
  at the loss of U.S. Army Private John Alexander Mattox of Jenkins,
  who died in Afghanistan on August 10, 2008, at the age of 23; and
         WHEREAS, A native of Mount Pleasant, Alex Mattox was born on
  February 26, 1985, to Mike and Judy Mattox; he was drawn to the
  armed forces from an early age, and after graduating from
  Daingerfield High School, he fulfilled his goal of joining the army
  in October 2007; and
         WHEREAS, This outstanding young Texan brightened the world
  around him with his affable nature; he loved Chevy pickups,
  cheering on the Dallas Cowboys, and music, earning UIL awards for
  his music memory ability; cherishing his faith, he attended South
  Union Baptist Church, where he and other fallen soldiers are being
  honored with a monument to be dedicated on Memorial Day; and
         WHEREAS, Full of dreams for the future, Private Mattox was
  looking forward to returning to East Texas after serving his
  country; he was extremely close with his family, and he worked with
  his father before joining the service; and
         WHEREAS, Private Mattox performed his difficult mission in
  Afghanistan with exemplary dedication and professionalism, and his
  efforts were recognized with the Bronze Star Medal; his unfaltering
  devotion to duty, his fellow soldiers, and this country reflected
  the highest ideals of the United States Army, and his fellow
  citizens owe him a debt of gratitude that the passage of time can
  never diminish; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Private John
  Alexander Mattox and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his
  family: to his parents, Mike and Judy Mattox; to his siblings,
  Ashlie, Austin, and Dawson; and to his other relatives and many
  friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Alex
  Mattox.
