R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the heartache felt |
|
|
at the loss of U.S. Air Force Major Rodolfo Ivan Rodriguez of El |
|
|
Paso, who died on September 20, 2008, at the age of 34; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Assigned to the 86th Construction and Training |
|
|
Squadron at Ramstein Air Base in Germany, Major Rodriguez was one of |
|
|
53 people killed when an improvised explosive device detonated |
|
|
outside a hotel in Islamabad, Pakistan; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Major Rodriguez was a 1993 graduate of Ysleta High |
|
|
School, where he played football and baseball and was a member of |
|
|
the band; he went on to earn a bachelor's degree from the U.S. Air |
|
|
Force Academy in 1998 and to serve in civil engineer units, |
|
|
including Vandenberg Air Force Base in California; he spent six |
|
|
months deployed at Kirkuk Air Base in Iraq in 2006 and was on his |
|
|
third Central Command assignment at the time of his death; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Dedicated to his family, Rodolfo Rodriguez made |
|
|
regular trips home while he was in the academy, never missing the |
|
|
birthdays of his loved ones; moreover, he inspired relatives and |
|
|
friends alike with his intelligence, kindness, and hard work; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Americans owe a profound debt to our nation's |
|
|
servicemen and servicewomen, whose devotion to their country |
|
|
inspires them to take up military service, and their committed |
|
|
efforts and enormous sacrifices are deserving of their fellow |
|
|
citizens' deepest respect and gratitude; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Major Rodriguez embodied the highest ideals of the |
|
|
United States Air Force, and the blessing of his life will be |
|
|
forever cherished by those who were privileged to share in his love |
|
|
and affection; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Major Rodolfo |
|
|
Rodriguez and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: |
|
|
to his wife, Caryn Rodriguez; to his mother, Minerva Rivas; to his |
|
|
brothers, Edgar and Fernando Rivas; and to his other relatives and |
|
|
many friends; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Rodolfo |
|
|
Ivan Rodriguez. |
