R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Words cannot express the heartache felt at the loss |
|
of U.S. Army Specialist William Lawrence Edwards, who died on |
|
August 11, 2007, at the age of 23; and |
|
WHEREAS, Assigned to the 1st Battalion, 30th Infantry |
|
Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, |
|
Specialist Edwards was killed while bravely serving his country in |
|
Iraq; and |
|
WHEREAS, Billy Edwards grew up in Houston, where he was a |
|
valued member of Boy Scout Troop No. 599; in addition to attaining |
|
the prestigious Eagle Scout badge at the age of 15, he was elected |
|
senior patrol leader by his fellow scouts, a position in which he |
|
supervised the 100 members of his troop; and |
|
WHEREAS, He went on to study at Texas A&M University, proudly |
|
serving with the Corps of Cadets C-2 unit before joining the U.S. |
|
Army; a young man with great ambitions, he hoped to one day attend |
|
law school and serve his fellow citizens as a member of Congress; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Our state and nation are fortunate to have men and |
|
women whose love of country leads them to military duty, and time |
|
can never diminish the profound debt that Americans owe to Billy |
|
Edwards for the service he undertook and the sacrifice he rendered; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, The thoughts and prayers of many go out to the family |
|
of this beloved young man; he was a soldier of honor and valor, and |
|
those who were fortunate enough to share in the blessing of his life |
|
will forever carry him close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Specialist William |
|
Lawrence Edwards and extend sincere sympathy to all those who mourn |
|
his passing; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Specialist |
|
William Lawrence Edwards. |
