R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Words cannot express the heartache felt at the loss
  of U.S. Army Specialist William Lawrence Edwards, who died on
  August 11, 2007, at the age of 23; and
         WHEREAS, Assigned to the 1st Battalion, 30th Infantry
  Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division,
  Specialist Edwards was killed while bravely serving his country in
  Iraq; and
         WHEREAS, Billy Edwards grew up in Houston, where he was a
  valued member of Boy Scout Troop No. 599; in addition to attaining
  the prestigious Eagle Scout badge at the age of 15, he was elected
  senior patrol leader by his fellow scouts, a position in which he
  supervised the 100 members of his troop; and
         WHEREAS, He went on to study at Texas A&M University, proudly
  serving with the Corps of Cadets C-2 unit before joining the U.S.
  Army; a young man with great ambitions, he hoped to one day attend
  law school and serve his fellow citizens as a member of Congress;
  and
         WHEREAS, Our state and nation are fortunate to have men and
  women whose love of country leads them to military duty, and time
  can never diminish the profound debt that Americans owe to Billy
  Edwards for the service he undertook and the sacrifice he rendered;
  and
         WHEREAS, The thoughts and prayers of many go out to the family
  of this beloved young man; he was a soldier of honor and valor, and
  those who were fortunate enough to share in the blessing of his life
  will forever carry him close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Specialist William
  Lawrence Edwards and extend sincere sympathy to all those who mourn
  his passing; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Specialist
  William Lawrence Edwards.
