R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The family and friends of U.S. Army Staff Sergeant
  Fernando Santos of San Antonio suffered an immeasurable loss with
  the death of this valiant soldier on August 2, 2007, at the age of
  29; and
         WHEREAS, Assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Infantry
  Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division in Fort Lewis,
  Washington, Staff Sergeant Santos was killed in Baghdad, Iraq, when
  an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle; and
         WHEREAS, Born on March 31, 1978, Fernando Santos was raised
  by his grandparents in San Antonio; he attended school in the
  Northside Independent School District and later earned his GED; he
  enlisted in the army in 1997 and was serving his second deployment
  in Iraq at the time of his death; and
         WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Santos looked out for his fellow
  soldiers, giving them advice on a range of subjects; moreover, he
  was known for his quirky sense of humor and his ability to make
  others laugh; and
         WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan shared more than a decade with
  his beloved wife, Adonia, whom he had known since childhood; he was
  a devoted father to her son, and together the couple were blessed
  with three more children; and
         WHEREAS, Through his unwavering dedication to duty, honor,
  and this nation, Fernando Santos embodied the highest ideals of the
  armed services, and memories of his love and friendship will
  forever be cherished by all those who held him dear; now, therefore,
  be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Staff Sergeant
  Fernando Santos and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his
  family: to his wife, Adonia Santos; to his children, Paul, Daniel,
  Iliana, and Victor; to his father, Gilbert Santos; to his brothers,
  Gilbert, Eric, Leroy, Anthony, Diego, and Joseph; to his sister,
  Genesis; to his uncle, Daniel Santos; and to his other relatives and
  many friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Fernando
  Santos.
