R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The family and friends of Lieutenant Kile Grant West |
|
suffered an immeasurable loss with the death of this beloved young |
|
man in Iraq on May 28, 2007, at the age of 23; and |
|
WHEREAS, A native of Pasadena, Kile West attended Hutto High |
|
School and participated in baseball, football, track, and FFA; he |
|
went on to pursue higher education at Blinn College and Stephen F. |
|
Austin State University, where he was active in the ROTC program and |
|
Delta Chi Fraternity; and |
|
WHEREAS, While earning his degree in business management, he |
|
became a sergeant in the National Guard and assisted in the Columbia |
|
Shuttle recovery efforts and Hurricane Katrina relief; he went on |
|
to fulfill a long-held goal when he was commissioned as a lieutenant |
|
in the United States Army; and |
|
WHEREAS, Lieutenant West was deployed to Iraq on October 3, |
|
2006; notwithstanding the hardships that he faced in a war zone, he |
|
performed his work with pride and professionalism, and his heroism |
|
earned him both the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart; and |
|
WHEREAS, This beloved son and brother was known for his |
|
compassion for others and his ability to achieve his goals; in |
|
addition to spending time with his loved ones, he enjoyed weight |
|
lifting and hunting; and |
|
WHEREAS, Through his unwavering dedication to duty and honor, |
|
Kile West embodied the highest ideals of the United States armed |
|
forces, and the blessing of his life will be forever treasured by |
|
those who were privileged to share in the warmth of his love and |
|
friendship; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Lieutenant Kile Grant |
|
West and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to |
|
his mother, Nanette West, and her companion, Rodney Carr; to his |
|
father, Grady West, and his wife, Melissa; to his sisters, Kelli and |
|
Kara West; to his brother, Carter West; to his grandparents, |
|
Marlene and Dean Schwartz and Edith West; to his aunts, Kelli |
|
Peveto, Kristi Davis, Mary West, Sharon Hovendick, and Lanita |
|
Bristowe; to his uncles, Dean Schwartz II and Gary and David West; |
|
and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Lieutenant |
|
Kile Grant West. |
