R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The family and friends of U.S. Army Corporal Peter
  Courcy of Frisco suffered an immeasurable loss with the death of
  this valiant soldier on February 10, 2009, at the age of 22; and
         WHEREAS, Assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 506th Infantry
  Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, based
  at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, Corporal Courcy was killed while
  bravely serving his country in Salerno, Afghanistan; he was
  posthumously promoted to the rank of corporal; and
         WHEREAS, Peter Courcy had dreamed of a military career since
  childhood, inspired by his grandfather, a Vietnam War veteran, and
  his uncle who served in the Persian Gulf War; he graduated in 2004
  from Frisco High School, where he was a member of the hockey and
  wrestling teams, and went on to attend community college and play
  amateur hockey for the Dallas Ice Hawks; he subsequently enlisted
  in the army in 2006 and was trained as an Airborne assault gunner
  before deploying to Afghanistan in March 2008; and
         WHEREAS, Corporal Courcy received numerous awards and
  decorations for his distinguished service, including the Army
  Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global
  War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Air
  Assault Badge, the Parachutist Badge, and Weapons Qualification,
  M4, expert; he had recently signed on for another five years of
  service and hoped to one day join the Special Forces; and
         WHEREAS, Known for his cheerful personality and playful sense
  of humor, Corporal Courcy lifted the spirits of his fellow soldiers
  during hard times; he was an enthusiastic Dallas Cowboys fan who
  looked forward to sharing his favorite team with his infant son,
  Anthony Luke, whom he and his wife, the former Mara Gash, welcomed
  in September 2008; and
         WHEREAS, Exemplifying the highest ideals of the U.S. armed
  forces, Peter Courcy inspired others with his commitment,
  leadership, and courage; although his death has left a void in the
  lives of his loved ones, they will forever carry memories of this
  heroic Texan close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Corporal Peter Courcy
  and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his
  wife, Mara Courcy; to his son, Anthony Luke Courcy; to his mother
  and stepfather, Mary and Chris Bush; to his father, Jon Mitchell; to
  his grandfather, Ernest Courcy; to his uncle, Daniel Colasanto; and
  to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Peter
  Courcy.
