R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, With her retirement at the close of the 2008-2009
  school year, educator Ruby Leona Gates concludes a notable career
  with the Northside Independent School District in San Antonio; and
         WHEREAS, A native Texan, Ruby Leona Williams was born in
  Roscoe to Aubrey and Rosie Williams; she grew up in Hermleigh and
  later earned a degree from Angelo State University; and
         WHEREAS, In 1972, she married Lieutenant Ned Gates, and the
  couple's military travels took them to Webb Air Force Base in Big
  Spring and on to California, Nebraska, Okinawa, and England before
  they settled in the Alamo City; today, this devoted mother of three
  sons, Jeff, Travis, and Sam, and "Nana" to granddaughter, Zoey,
  delights in her treasured family that also includes a
  daughter-in-law, Mary; and
         WHEREAS, Since joining the faculty of William H. Taft High
  School in 1989, Mrs. Gates has influenced scores of young people on
  their journey to becoming engaged, productive citizens; she was
  instrumental in the development of Taft's special education
  program, which has grown to a current enrollment of 35; and
         WHEREAS, A devout congregant of St. Brigid's Catholic Church,
  Mrs. Gates is widely known for her Southern charm, her
  award-winning sweet potato pies, and her skill as a Bunko player;
  and
         WHEREAS, Ruby Gates has long contributed her talents in
  behalf of her profession, her family, and her community, and her
  retirement offers a welcome opportunity to reflect on her many
  achievements; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Ruby Leona Gates on her retirement
  from Taft High School and extend to her sincere best wishes for
  happiness and good fortune in the years ahead; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mrs. Gates as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
