R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Katrice Williams of William Lee Hastings Elementary |
|
School in Duncanville has been selected to attend the 2009 National |
|
Mickelson ExxonMobil Teachers Academy at the Liberty Science Center |
|
in Jersey City, New Jersey; and |
|
WHEREAS, Founded in 2005 by professional golfer Phil |
|
Mickelson and his wife, Amy, in association with ExxonMobil, the |
|
academy brings together teachers from across the nation to |
|
participate in an intensive week of professional development |
|
workshops devoted to innovative techniques for teaching math and |
|
science; and |
|
WHEREAS, Third through fifth grade teachers may apply for |
|
admission to attend this prestigious academy; participants are |
|
chosen based on their qualifications and their dedication to their |
|
students and their profession by a panel of educators from the |
|
National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the National |
|
Science Teachers Association; and |
|
WHEREAS, A teacher at Hastings Elementary in Duncanville, |
|
Katrice Williams is one of only 200 teachers selected for the |
|
academy this year from among the more than 1,600 teachers who have |
|
applied for admission to the program since 2008; and |
|
WHEREAS, The future economic vitality of Texas will depend in |
|
part on the education received by the young people of the Lone Star |
|
State, and teachers play a vital role in helping to prepare their |
|
students for success in the 21st century; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Katrice Williams on her selection |
|
to attend the 2009 National Mickelson ExxonMobil Teachers Academy |
|
and extend to her sincere best wishes for an informative and |
|
memorable time in Jersey City; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Ms. Williams as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
