R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Brittany Winfrey has been named valedictorian of the |
|
|
Class of 2009 at Evan E. Worthing High School in Houston, and for |
|
|
achieving this significant honor, she indeed merits special |
|
|
recognition; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Earning the title of valedictorian requires not only |
|
|
intellect and aptitude, but four years of dedication to the highest |
|
|
academic standards; the student who garners this coveted |
|
|
distinction must demonstrate a thorough understanding of a wide |
|
|
range of subjects, from math and science to language arts and social |
|
|
studies, yet the rewards of the countless hours of study and |
|
|
preparation are myriad; Ms. Winfrey is secretary of the student |
|
|
council and captain of the soccer and cheerleading teams at |
|
|
Worthing; she is a member of Business Professionals of America and |
|
|
the National Honor Society, has taken the first place prize at the |
|
|
UIL computer arts and science fair, and plans to study microbiology |
|
|
at Texas A&M University; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In addition to the pride inherent in being |
|
|
recognized as the highest achieving student in her class, the |
|
|
valedictorian is frequently the recipient of scholarships and |
|
|
grants; she also gains the opportunity to address her fellow |
|
|
seniors at commencement and to reflect on their shared history as |
|
|
well as their hopes and ambitions for the future; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Throughout her academic career, Brittany Winfrey |
|
|
has earned the respect and admiration of her teachers and |
|
|
classmates at Worthing, and her exceptional scholastic ability, |
|
|
hard work, and commitment to excellence have surely opened the way |
|
|
to limitless opportunities for this noteworthy young Texan; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Brittany Winfrey on being named the |
|
|
2009 valedictorian at Evan E. Worthing High School and extend to her |
|
|
sincere best wishes for continued success in all her endeavors; |
|
|
and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Ms. Winfrey as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
