R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Darlene Speights-Evens has been named the 2009
  Teacher of the Year at Frost Elementary School in Houston; and
         WHEREAS, A dedicated educator for more than a decade, Ms.
  Speights-Evens has most recently distinguished herself as a
  kindergarten teacher at Frost; she holds a bachelor's degree from
  Texas Southern University and a master's degree in counseling from
  Prairie View A&M University; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Speights-Evens is a valuable and positive member
  of the Frost faculty, and she never tires of watching a child
  develop new skills and knowledge; she was inspired to become a
  teacher as a child growing up in Los Angeles, thanks to the fine
  examples of her mother and her second-grade teacher; in her
  leisure, she is active in Telecare at Windsor Village Methodist
  Church; and
         WHEREAS, Teachers play a vital role in fostering the ability,
  intellect, and self-confidence of children during their formative
  years, and Darlene Speights-Evens has helped to set many young
  Texans on the path toward future achievement; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Darlene Speights-Evens on being
  named 2009 Teacher of the Year at Frost Elementary School in Houston
  and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be
  it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Speights-Evens as an expression of high regard by
  the Texas House of Representatives.
