R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Beginning another notable chapter in his public
  service career, John Monaco was reelected mayor of Mesquite on May
  9, 2009; and
         WHEREAS, A resident of the city since 1979, Mr. Monaco served
  27 years as a licensed respiratory care practitioner; he is a
  graduate of Northern Virginia Community College and has earned
  numerous continuing education credits, including completing a
  specialized curriculum on life support for newborns and pediatric
  patients through The University of Texas Southwestern Medical
  School; and
         WHEREAS, Mayor Monaco previously served his fellow citizens
  as a member of the Mesquite City Council from 2001 to 2007, when he
  was appointed mayor; he was subsequently elected to the post the
  following year; and
         WHEREAS, Dedicated to the city he calls home, Mayor Monaco
  gained experience in Mesquite city government as a member of the
  planning and zoning commission, the civil service commission and
  trial board, the water advisory board, and the board of adjustment,
  and he has served as the coordinator for the city's volunteer
  services; he has further contributed to his community as a board
  member of the local chapter of the American Heart Association,
  which he also served as president; and
         WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, this esteemed gentleman
  enjoys the love and support of his wife, Alice, as well as their
  five children and eight grandchildren; he is a congregant of Shiloh
  Terrace Baptist Church and enjoys cooking and restoring antique
  furniture in his spare time; and
         WHEREAS, John Monaco's desire to serve others and work toward
  the greater good has set an inspiring example for his fellow
  citizens, and residents of Mesquite are indeed fortunate to benefit
  from his continued leadership; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate John Monaco on his reelection as
  mayor of Mesquite and extend to him sincere best wishes for a
  productive and rewarding tenure in office; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mayor Monaco as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
