R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Barbara
  Gulick Rathke of Del Rio, who passed away on March 18, 2009, at the
  age of 66; and
         WHEREAS, The daughter of Sparks and Lenora Gulick, the former
  Barbara Gulick was born in Del Rio on December 15, 1942; she went on
  to graduate from Del Rio High School in 1960, and she later earned a
  master's degree in education from Sul Ross State University; she
  became a teacher in the local public school system, and her students
  cherished her ability to brighten the classroom and make learning
  fun with her creative instruction and imaginative storytelling;
  after 30 years as an educator, she retired in 2003; and
         WHEREAS, A devoted wife to Dr. Herman L. Rathke, Mrs. Rathke
  enjoyed spending time with him on their farm, feeding their
  livestock, tending to their horses and dogs, and riding horses with
  her children and grandchildren; with a passion for animals, Mrs.
  Rathke assisted with her husband's veterinary practice and would
  often care for the animals who were in distress; and
         WHEREAS, Barbara Rathke enriched the lives of many with her
  kindness and generosity, and she will forever hold a treasured
  place in the hearts of all who were privileged to share in her love
  and friendship; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Barbara Gulick
  Rathke and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to
  her husband, Dr. Herman L. Rathke; to her daughter, Elaine Coggins,
  and her husband, Toby; to her son, Lucas Gilliam, and his wife,
  Mariana; to her sisters, Cookie Gulick, Cathie Callnan and her
  husband, Ken, and Sandra Cauthorn and her husband, Bobby; to her
  brother, Jimmy McNair, and his wife, Kathy; to her grandchildren,
  Toby and Bess Coggins and Mauro and Luke Gilliam; to her niece,
  Renita White, and her husband, Kyle; to her nephew, Bob Ricks, and
  his wife, Shawndi; and to her other relatives and friends; and, be
  it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Barbara
  Rathke.
