R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The life of an esteemed attorney and judge drew to a
  close with the passing of the Honorable Scott Alan Ozmun of Austin
  on May 8, 2009, at the age of 50; and
         WHEREAS, Scott Ozmun established a distinguished career as a
  civil trial lawyer that extended for more than two decades, and he
  took a leadership role in the Travis County Democratic Party as well
  as many professional organizations; in 2008, he was elected judge
  of the 353rd District Court, serving in that position until the time
  of his death; and
         WHEREAS, Born on September 30, 1958, in Cleveland, Ohio,
  Judge Ozmun spent several years in New York early in his life; he
  completed his undergraduate studies at Georgetown University,
  where he served as student body president during his senior year,
  and graduated with honors from The University of Texas School of Law
  in 1985; and
         WHEREAS, After working as a briefing attorney for Justice
  William Kilgarlin of the Texas Supreme Court, he entered private
  practice and became a partner in the Austin law firm that is now
  known as Whitehurst, Harkness, Brees, Cheng & Imhoff; renowned for
  the skilled and compassionate service he provided to his clients,
  he was a respected member of the legal community and served on the
  boards of Volunteer Legal Services of Central Texas, the Legal Aid
  Society of Central Texas, and the Austin Young Lawyers Association;
  moreover, he was president-elect of the Austin chapter of the
  American Board of Trial Advocates and a member of the boards of
  directors for the Austin Bar Association and the Texas Trial
  Lawyers Association; and
         WHEREAS, Judge Ozmun's involvement in electoral politics
  included service as a precinct chair and as a member of the finance
  council for the Travis County Democratic Party, and he was the
  organization's party chair from 2000 to 2004; nonetheless, he had
  the ability to transcend partisan divisions and counted many
  Republicans among his friends; and
         WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, he enjoyed the love and
  support of his wife, Beth, and his daughters, Delaney and Kendall;
  through the years, he was an avid sports fan, cheering on the
  Buffalo Bills and the athletic teams of his alma maters, Georgetown
  and UT; and
         WHEREAS, Those Texans who give freely of their time and
  talents to benefit the greater community make the world a better
  place through their actions and their example, and Scott Ozmun
  leaves behind a legacy that will resonate for many years to come;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Scott Alan Ozmun and
  extend deepest condolences to the members of his family: to his
  wife, Beth Collum Ozmun; to his daughters, Delaney Elizabeth Ozmun
  and Kendall Lynne Ozmun; to his parents, Bob and Peggy Ozmun; to his
  brother, Randy Ozmun; and to his other relatives and friends; and,
  be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Judge
  Ozmun.
