H.R. No. 2464

R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, Erasmo Seguin Community Learning Center in the Dallas Independent School District has been recognized with the HealthierUS School Challenge Gold Certificate Award from the U.S. Department of Agriculture; and

WHEREAS, The HealthierUS School Challenge is designed to create healthier school environments and promote more wholesome eating habits among schoolchildren, educational staff, and other members of the community; to win the commendation, an institution must offer a cafeteria menu that meets or exceeds exacting nutrition standards; in addition, the school is required to educate students about healthy eating and provide them ample opportunities for physical activity; and

WHEREAS, The entire campus community at Seguin elementary contributed to winning the Gold Certificate Award, with vital leadership provided by principal Yolanda Thompson and Dallas ISD food service director Dora Rivas; the school's admirable achievements are furthering the fight against childhood obesity in Texas and helping young people to establish healthy habits that will benefit them for the rest of their lives; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Erasmo Seguin Community Learning Center on its receipt of the HealthierUS School Challenge Gold Certificate Award and extend to the students, faculty, and staff sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
