R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The city of Garland has greatly benefited from the
  dedicated leadership of the Honorable Ronald E. Jones since he was
  elected mayor in 2007; and
         WHEREAS, During his tenure in municipal government, Mayor
  Jones has ably guided the city with an eye to the future, and his
  knowledge and expertise in a wide range of community issues have
  earned him the respect of many people along the way; and
         WHEREAS, Born and raised in Dallas, he earned a bachelor's
  degree from Dallas Baptist University and a master's degree in
  human relations and business management from Abilene Christian
  University; and
         WHEREAS, Mayor Jones has nearly three decades of public
  service experience, including five years as Garland's assistant
  city manager, and he oversaw more than 14 departments during his
  notable tenure; after his retirement from that office in May 2005,
  he served as management consultant to the city manager, a position
  in which he helped establish a relief center for the victims of
  Hurricane Katrina; and
         WHEREAS, His career has also included service as
  parliamentarian to the mayor and city council and as an adjunct
  professor of business at El Centro College; he is a member of the
  National Association of Parliamentarians, a certified mediator,
  temperament counselor, and associate pastor at New Hope Baptist
  Church, where he leads the counseling ministry; and
         WHEREAS, Mayor Jones has further contributed to the community
  through his work with the Kiwanis Club, Garland Citizen Police
  Academy Alumni Association, Garland Asian American Task Force,
  Garland Association for Hispanic Affairs, Luna Elementary School
  Campus Improvement Team, and Garland Landmark Society; in addition,
  he has been a board member of the Regional Transportation Council,
  Garland Civic Theatre, the Achievement Center of Texas, New
  Beginning Center, and the North Texas Commission, and he chaired
  the North Texas Commission Leadership North Texas Selection
  Committee; and
         WHEREAS, Each day, public servants improve the quality of
  life for their fellow citizens in innumerable ways, and the efforts
  of Ronald Jones are helping to make Garland an even better place in
  which to live and work; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby honor Mayor Ronald E. Jones for his committed
  public service and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued
  success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mayor Jones as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
